Securing Your Kids Future

By Janet Spencer

Earlier this week Janet presented on Securing Your Kids Future, an event hosted by YBR Kew at Trinity Grammar. Around 150 people braved appalling Melbourne winter weather to attend and receive an update on the property market, wealth creation and investment strategies from the presenters.

Attendees were thrilled to hear from Mark Bouris AM, an Australian businessman who is best known as the founder and chairman of ‘Wizard Home Loans’, Australia’s second largest non-bank mortgage lender behind Aussie Home Loans. He is now the chairman of Yellow Brick Road, a business which he founded in 2007.  Television fans may have watched Mark host the Australian version of The Apprentice, the series aired in 2009 but only remained on air for one season. Bouris remained as host when the spin-off series The Celebrity Apprentice Australia premiered in October 2011. The Celebrity Apprentice was a huge success, and often rated within the top 5 television programs of the day. Mark spoke about global influences on our economy, what’s happening at home and made predictions for the immediate future.  Insightful and hopefully every attendee appreciated his willingness to share information.

The winner of first year of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia, Mr Andrew Morello was MC on the night.  Andrew did a great job and as always was super engaging and switched on. His family background in real estate in Melbourne enhanced his connection with all the speakers and the attendees, making for a relaxed but fun and informative event.

Steve McMenamin of ABC Homes spoke about where and what to build in Victoria, creating wealth with new property and current market conditions. He stressed the asset value of land an enduring principle with real estate and wealth creation.

Finally, I had a lot to cover with recent events impacting property values in Melbourne and its suburbs. The recent federal election outcome was good news for property investors wanting to keep capital gains discounts and negative gearing.  Also loosening of lending policies and lowered interest rates in what’s been a busy month.  I spoke about CoreLogic research indicating that the residential market may have bottomed in this current cycle.  Buyer Solutions shared case studies of properties that we have bought for clients over the last 20 years and how they have grown in value and created significant wealth for our clients. Our expertise and what to buy and importantly what not to buy if you want to grow wealth in property is certainly valued by our clients and all attendees on the night.

A big thank you to Ryan Hillas and the YBR Kew team for hosting the evening and inviting me to speak.
