Real estate for Aussies coming home will be a massive topic after last week’s announcement by Scott Morrison that the borders are opening to some degree.  Of course, there are strict rules to protect everyone’s safety. As I am currently based in Melbourne and in Stage 4 COVID-19 lockdown, I hope that the hotel quarantine is effective and enforced once Aussies are back home. Apparently, 27,000 Australian citizens have returned from overseas since COVID-19 hit our shores.

In last week’s report on the National Cabinet meeting, our Prime Minister said that the quota would be lifted to 6,000 Australian expats arriving per week, coming home into NSW and he expects around 40% of these to be wanting to go on to other states. They will be coming on commercial charter flights and paying for hotel quarantine themselves. Channel 9 featured this article entitled Thousands more Australians to come home as states agree to lift international travel cap.”

Where will they live?

Accommodation and housing will be high on these returning Australians agenda after lockdown. Many will return to live with family but others will need to rent or buy a home.
